Foster and kinship caregiving are acts of extraordinary compassion and resilience. Behind every story of a child in need lies a caregiver offering love, hope, healing, and care in ways that transform lives— the child’s, their family and their own.
In this blog series, we invite you to journey into the heart of our local foster and kinship caregiving community. These are real stories from extraordinary people who have opened their homes and hearts to children in need. Each week, we’ll share a new narrative, shining a light on the challenges, triumphs, and quiet moments of connection that define their experiences.
To honor the privacy of those involved, all names and identifying details have been changed, but the authenticity and spirit of these stories remain intact.
Join us as we celebrate the caregivers in our community and the profound difference they make every day. Let these stories inspire you, move you, and deepen your understanding of the vital role foster and kinship caregivers play in building stronger communities.
Let’s explore healing, love, hope and care—one story at a time.
Foster Love … and heroes
“We had an 8-year-old whose class project was about heroes. He told his teacher that he thought his foster parents were heroes for children. He was excited to tell his classmates who his foster parents were and how they helped care for him and love him. The teacher noted how sweet it was, and how touched she was that he felt so good about sharing his personal life with the group.”

Foster parents model healthy relationships, and when a child recognizes that that caregiver is in their corner, advocating for them, loving them, caring for them, and they are safe, we see the child start to blossom. Love becomes heroic in the eyes of a child.
